Can anyone identify this bird? A friend sent me the photo and I think it is a beautiful bird.

Good for you Kryptos...
It is traditional to post the day and location of the photo capture... helps in identification.

Other than the Greater Bird of Paradise. http://www.treknatur.../photo70452.htm
I remember, when I first started birding many years ago, that there was a PBS documentary on elaborate courtship and nests of the Bowerbird and the many Bird of Paradise species. May have been one of those that David Attenborough hosted(Life on Earth or Living Planet or maybe something else altogether)
If you want to see some really cool birds check out the different Bird of Paradise species. In trying to find a link to some different species... I came across this NATURE video(also David Attenborough)that aired earlier this year. I have not watched this one so I am not sure what exactly is covered, but have it saved for another time. http://www.pbs.org/w...l-episode/6322/
Enjoy!

Thanks for the video links -- I'll definitely check them out. Honestly, though, I think nature couldn't imagine anything Greater than the Lesser Bird of Paradise, either, because both species look exactly the same. ;)
