Ruby Throated Hummingbird and American Gold Finch

Exciting news to post.  We have some tall 10 ft sunflowers growing next to our house.  Just two days ago, I was looking out the window and saw a beautiful male American Gold Finch eating at one of the flowers.  He didn't notice me looking out the window watching him.  The wind was blowing the sunflowers and he held on almost upside down to eat.  Then all of a sudden, a beautiful, female ruby-throated hummingbird came to the same sunflower stalk and ate right next to the gold finch.  They both stayed there for about 10 minutes.  I wish I had my camera but my husband had left it at work.  What a beautiful sight.  I think they might be best friends!

I think hummingbirds are much more active with other birds than we realize. I put fresh seed in the bird feeder and in minutes 5 chickadees came to the feeder.  To my amazement, a female hummingbird chased them all away.  They returned in a few minutes and the hummingbird was gone.  I wonder if the chickadees were as surprised as I was!       Bird watching lady

Thank you for your pictures, Gary!  I need to get in the habit of having a camera ready while I'm bird watching.

And bird watching lady, thanks for your comment too!  I love to hear the chickadees - they are all so cheerful aren't they?  I saw my hummingbird again tonight.  She was hovering over our heads up in our wild cherry tree. Not sure what she was doing - eating cherries?  I guess she likes fruit (cherries) and nuts (sunflowers).
