This is scruffy and ugly... but it is a bird on a wire... with dinner.

    Re: Birds on a wire

I have a Kestrel pair who hunt and nest in my neighborhood during the winter. They seem to like my back yard/alley area.

8 days camping in Western Colorado and 5 new birds: Juniper Titmouse, Mountain Bluebird, Black-billed Magpie, Clark's Nutcracker, Gray Jay. Beautiful!!!

OK Guys, I am waiting to see the infamous always-see-them-on-a-wire (until my camera is in focus) kingfisher shots!  Anyone?? I know there are lots of Floridians here..step up!

The doves and mockingbirds love to sit on the wires around our yard. Here's a dove taken today both on a wire and a closeup on the ground.

    Re: Birds on a wire

These are all great shots!  I have a Kingfisher on a wire picture but it's on my home computer!  Drat!  I have some other pics that would fit this theme too but I'll have to wait until I get home to add them.

    Enjoying this thread

Lyceel, do you recall if this Shrike had prey skewered along the barbs on this fence wire? Lots of barbed wire fencing out here and it seems like every time I find a Shrike on barbed wire, it has 'snacks' stuck on the nearby barbs. Creative use of a man-made material by a wild bird.

No, I didn't notice any.  I didn't know about that behavior at the time, so I didn't actually look for it, either.  I might have just missed it.  There were quite a few shrikes out there that day, too.
