Does anyone have any idea what kind of sparrow this is? (At least I think it's a sparrow.) Seen in San Francisco in early May. Thanks.

Re: Any suggestions?
White-crowned sparrow, I'd say, though it's not the ideal ID'ing angle.

Thanks. I did see a white-crowned sparrow near this same location later in the day, so it's a good possibility. I know this is not a good angle, which is why I didn't even try to guess.

I've found that pale gray upper back streaked with rust is usually a pretty good indicator for white-crowned even if the head pattern is obscured. This appears to be a juvenile bird coming into its adult plumage as the streaking on the head looks rusty with patchy black areas.
