Still shots from video frames - what is best method?

If I want to make some still copies on my computer from images on a video file, what is the best method to get the best quality image?  I have Windows Movie Maker on my computer, which enables me to do this but the pictures are very rough-looking.  It could be that my video shots aren't very good quality, I suppose but does anyone know of any better method that doesn't cost a lot of $$?

there are a number of software programs that will allow you to capture stills from movie files some of these are free and some will cost anywhere from a few $ to several 100$'s.

Do a search on google and look for something that will suit your OS. Many of those that cost do have a free trail that you try first before you buy.

Have you tried just moving to the frame you like and hitting 'print screen', then pasting it in MSPaint? :)

Google Picasa 3 does the trick, and last time I used it it worked quite well.

    Thanks, everyone.

Raptor - thanks for suggesting Google Picasa 3 - I downloaded it and took still shots from my video, and they were a lot better than the ones I got from Windows Movie Maker.

I wanted to use it to take shots of the Eared Grebe I got on video last weekend.  I didn't take any still shots, and it's a new lifer for me, so I wanted some halfway decent shots for my collection.
