What a beautiful shot!  I prefer the first shot better, though, before you changed the effect (no offense; just my opinion).

No offence taken the orton effect is one that softens the focus by using a gaussian blur, it has it's place with some images that was the only image that I had which would hi-light the effect.

I prefer the first shot as well, but think both images are fantastic.  Clearly, the first shot is true-to-life, but the second one looks like a watercolor painting based on the first one.  Very interesting, kiwi.  Well done.

The fall colors up your way are just awesome!!  We don't get that down here in So CA.  I'm jealous!

My preference would vary based on the purpose.  If I was looking for a picture to hang on the wall, I'd go with the processed shot, hands-down.
