    Halloween Bird Search

Find the birdiesHere is a photo of a very busy shrub.  For birds that eat berries, it is the destination.  For other birds, it is a staging area to and from the bird feeders in the foreground.  There are four species of birds in the photo.  Can you find them?  What are the different species, and how many birds are there of each species?  There is also a "bird ghost" watching you through the leaves!  Can you find it?  It's not a real bird, just a ghostly figure that looks like one.

P.S.  Don't count the one bird perched on the feeder.

Sorry, Peggy...I'm not seeing your picture.

EDIT: I found the photo in your Photo gallery, but I can't enlarge it any!! Sad

Sorry!  I can't seem to figure out how to attach the photo!  It's in my gallery, but you would have to view the original image in order to zoom in for enough detail.  Maybe the image is too big?

Ok.   A smaller image has been added to my original post.  I hope there is enough detail for you all to find the birdies.

Good job, my friends, especially since my posted photo (< 640 kb) is not as detailed as my original (3.1 mb)!

None of you mentioned seeing the "ghost bird"??  Maybe it only appears when I view the photo.  Spooky!  It's the one in the upper left corner.

So, as you can see now, there are:
5 Eastern Bluebirds - several of them barely visible through the leaves
2 American Goldfinches - not counting a third one on the feeder
2 Dark-eyed Juncos - only the head shows on one of them
    1 Black Capped Chickadee

House finches?  No.  They all left a week or two ago -- finally!  They were eating me out of house and home!  The goldfinches will leave eventually, too.  The bluebirds will hang around for awhile, at least until the berries are all eaten.  They have been feasting on them for a couple of weeks.  The juncos just arrived, having spent the summer months in Canada.  Chickadees are year-round residents.
