A couple of questions about the birds

#1 Do song sparrows wag or flick their tails?

#2  I saw about 30 vultures flying south, but couldn't see the color of their heads.  Can I consider them turkey vultures?  What is the chance that their would be a black vulture among them and how do I tell them apart when they are flying?

#3  If you are in a group birding, and others see and identify birds you don't see, is there a way to report it to ebird without adding it to your own list?

    Thanks in advance.

On the vultures- you can probably assume that they were turkey vultures. It is actually fairly easy to tell them apart in flight though. Black vultures have very short tails, white at the tips of the wings, and they flap more than turkey vultures.

#2  -  one of the best ways to tell tur and blk vultures is the wing carriage.  TV's hold thier wings in a "v" shape above their bodies, while BV's hold their wings almost straight out, or oneven plane.  also, as stated, there is white/gray tips on the end of Blk vul's wing-tips.

#3  -  no, if you enter it, it will go on your list.  which really does not matter, just note the number of birders in your party and enter what you all saw.  or, encourage them to go in and enter the obs.

Thanks everyone.  I am pretty sure the birds were turkey vultures now.  I suspected they were, but there is always the hope that a new bird is seen.Smile

I kept seeing what I was sure was a song sparrow and it was flicking its tail like I had never seen one do before.
