    Re: Birds on a wire

yeah, they'll skewer grasshoppers, caterpillars, lizards, whatever yummy thing they've caught. I don't know if they only do it certain times of year---i.e., if they're anticipating scarcity---or if it's a year-round behavior.

8 days camping in Western Colorado and 5 new birds: Juniper Titmouse, Mountain Bluebird, Black-billed Magpie, Clark's Nutcracker, Gray Jay. Beautiful!!!

Not your typical wire perching bird, at least not in my experience.

Swainson's Hawk, light phase.... sitting on a power line. I have found Swainson's to be the easiest of all Hawks to photograph. They seem less disturbed by human presence, and at times seem to pose for the camera! This was one of those times, fortunately for me.

That is an impressive capture Matt... you can determine exactly how much personal space cowbirds need.

WOOOOWWWWW!!!!  I've never seen so many in one place!  I still wonder -- HOW do the cowbirds finally find each other, when they are raised by another species????  They obviously DO find each other but not sure how - must be instinct.  Birds are just amazing creatures in many ways!

DORD, very nice photo! Here's mine of Violet-green Swallow. Taking photos at dusk during work trip to Salem. The Capitol dome and a historic steeple can be seen from the top of a nearby parking garage so I grabbed my camera when I wandered upon this little feathered friend. The first shot I was thinking "Wow it landed and I have my camera." Second shot I was thinking "This bird is posing." Third shot I knew "This bird is a ham!" Bird's eye view, top of Liberty St Parking Garage Salem OR
