Tried syncing multiple times...iTunes is showing it's being installed but nothing ever appears on the iPod.

When in iTunes and on the device Application tab, try checking and then unchecking the box for iBird Pro. Let me know when you sync does the progress bar appear and slowly move as its being installed?

I've done this numerous times and yes, the progress bar moves slowly like it is being installed but nothing appears on the iPod Touch and the memory does not drop.

"Okay, but "tried syncing" doesn't tell me that you followed the instructions step-by-step. Can you confirm whether or not you did that? I'm just another user like you, so I'm only trying to help. Sometimes you have to help someone to help you by being explicit with what you are doing."

I know how to install apps...I've got a dozen other apps that I can easily remove or add at any time.

Gosh, I'm sorry I seem to have offended your intelligence. Let us know when you find a solution. In the meantime you might check your mobile device crash logs.

Why dont you download the free iBird 15 from the app store and see if that installs. Its very small and if it works it will help us narrow the problem down.

     That worked fine.

Bass: This tells me that the small size of iBird 15 has something to do with the success, and perhaps the large size of iBird Pro is one potential issue. So please contact me on email and I will send a code for a free copy of iBird Backyard, which is the next larger app. admin at whatbird dot com. Reference this email. Also answer a few questions:

    1. Is this an upgrade or a new purchase?

    2. Did you purchase in the device app store and install over wifi or did you purchase in iTunes and download on your PC then sync to your device?

    3. Are you using an iPhone or iPod touch?

    4. What is the device generation

    a. iPhone 3G, iPhone Edge, iPod Touch 2nd Gen, iPod touch, iPod Touch 1st Gen, iPod

    5. What OS version

    a. Look under iPhone Settings (the gear icon), General, About, Version. You will see something like "2.2 (5G77)"

    6. Which iBird app are you using

    a. Plus, Backyard, West, North, South, Midwest, Canada

    7. Which version of the app

    a. Look under More…, About, in the top black menu under the battery you will see "iBird Plus 1.5.0" or equivalent.

    8. What amount of free storage is showing in iTunes (see illustration below)?

    9. How many apps do you have on your device?

    10. Have you tried soft booting your device? If not here is how: Have you tried deleting iBird from the device and iTunes and repurchasing (there will be no charge as Apple server know you have purchased)?

    Hi

I would be very interested to see how the missing iBird Explorer Pro on iPod Touch since upgrading is resolved as I too am just about to upgrade my iPod Touch's operating system but daren't until I am reassured that iBird Explorer Pro still works seamlessly.

    Many thanks

So far only ONE user I know of was unable to find the app after upgrading and we never could figure out why. But that is a very low percentage so I would not worry. You can always do a restore and take it back to 2.2.

Since users are most likely to call in when they have problems, thought I'd check in with positive report ...

I have the original iPhone (Edge) -- upgraded to 3.0 last Thursday and everything has worked great!  Very happy with all the new features and iBird PRO is as reliable and valuable as ever!

Re: iPhone OS 3.0 Problem w/iBird Explorer Pro?

    Hi

Thanks for your reassurance. I have just upgraded my ipod touch to the new software version and from what I can see so far, my iBird PRO Explorer seems to be working just fine. I can't wait to try it out for real in Texas this fall rather than just enjoying reading and searching for research pleasure.

Can I ask if you have any plans to bring out a UK version of the software? We are crying out for this sort of thing here in Britain and there would certainly be a big take up. I'm going to the UK British Bird Fair in August but so far I've not seen an app like this for the iPhone / iPod Touch. We have a windows pda version but I ditched this and moved to an iPod instead as my hp pda kept crashing and wouldn't switch on etc despite spending a fortune on original hp replacement batteries. Any news of future plans would be welcome.

Re: iPhone OS 3.0 Problem w/iBird Explorer Pro?

    Mitch --

I delayed the upgrade because some of the previous Apple upgrades (not related to iBird) did not go as well.  I followed the problems being reported on the Apple discussion forums, and most problems with my kind of phone (iPhone original/Edge) were those using Mobile Me, networks with firewalls, or such.  I use a Mac, with all Mac software, no firewalls, and also followed the suggestions to do a FULL RESET (power + home 10 seconds until Apple logo) both before and after the upgrade.  Accordingly, everything went very smoothly and no problems, but wanted to pass that along for others who, like me, were apprehensive and delaying what is a wonderful upgrade.  I LOVE the new features (cut/copy/paste, rotating keyboard, voice memos, and MANY more)!
