These are GREAT shots! I wasn't part of the forum back when these were posted, so I didn't see them until now!
The closest thing I have is an American Wigeon telling another one off.

Matt:Western Tanager vs Bullock's Oriole
Another great caption! You seem to get a lot of aggressive birds down your way -- is there something in the water over there in AZ?

Matt:
Mature Anna's female (left) vs immature Black-chinned male.
Great action shot, Matt! Did you see which one was the winner? At our place, a mature Anna's male is the resident boss. He guards the feeders fiercely against all intruders! The only one he will allow to feed is his mate.
We did have only one HB feeder out, on the side of the house by a window. We added another by the front window, out of sight of the first one. The Anna's will sit in a tree that is out from the corner of the house so he can watch both feeders at the same time!! It gets quite comical sometimes..... he will fly down and chase a Black-chinned from the front feeder and another will zip in to the side feeder and grab a drink before the Anna's can get back and chase it off. Then while he is chasing that one, another will zip in to the front feeder! Keeps him very busy most of the time!!

We did not inherit Mother Earth from our ancestors...... we have borrowed Her from our descendants. Chief Seattle (paraphrased)

I went back through the shot series and it went like this... The black-chinned was feeding, the Anna's disturbed it enough to push it off its perch and land. The black-chinned countered, chased it off (out of view of the camera), and resettled. All of this took place over a 4 second time period.

How can you tell if they are fighting or just communicating?
A couple of weeks ago I heard a lot of noise. I went over to investigate and a red shouldered hawk on top of a street light pole was screaming at two crows on the next pole over. The crows were looking at the hawk and screaming right back. They were too far apart and too high up for me to get them in the same photo together and have it be a decent one but they are both screaming kind of birds. For all I know they were just having a conversation about the weather, not fighting.
Then last Spring there were two robins going at it. Actually one was yelling at the other one and every time the silent one moved, the other one would follow and scream at it some more. This was on the ground off my balcony and I saw them regularly and it was always the same thing. The yakety bird would get right in the face of the quiet one and follow it from spot to spot screaming at it until Silent Harry gave it a worm. Now I thought the one that wouldn't shut up was nagging her mate but as it turned out, the nagger was a juvenile. So, were they fighting or just communicating?
