Valentine's Day continues.....
I saw a pair of finches....pretty sure they were purple finches.....they were perched together on a wire and they kept going "beak to beak". My human projections says they were kissing but maybe the female was giving some food to her partner. Funny thing too is that there was a male house finch on the roof too watching them every now and again.
I keep seeing this pair of mourning doves do the "kissing" thing too and they sort of nudge one another and look very affectionate. I love watching it.
Numerous times I have observed 2 grackles do this funny thing on my roof. One was trying to eat and another kept fanning out its feathers puffing its head feathers and bending its head forward "squaking" at the other. It would circle the bird trying to eat over and over again making this chirping sound at it. The other bird would lunge at a bit to get it to back off sometimes. A couple of times recently though I saw the bird who was resistant become receptive so it is a mating thingy then. She would lower her body, her wings were a quiver and she arched back her head. The feather splayed bird would hop onto her. First time I ever saw that for grackles. So now there are new grackles on the way......
Wish I could observe more of this......
