    It's easy to mistake this bird for a Scott's Oriole if you don't look closely, since we want to automatically call a hooded yellow oriole a Scott's. There was a surge of Audubon's Oriole in central Texas last year (2007) and many were seen far north of their normal range.

    Also, the illustration on WhatBird shows much more black covering the chest than any of the birds I've seen. I would suggest that the hoods are quite short and abrupt -- no black goes past the nape on the back of the head or very far down the chest at all.
