And the last of my series, one of my friends from around the house.  This Cactus Wren provides a great pest control service.

    Re: Lunch

    Matt:
Barn Owl lunch remnants.  Eat it whole and chuck back up what you don't want.

owl pellets are so educational.  i've found small turtle shells in them, lots of fish bones, snake backbones and ribs, and of course, rodent bones.  all the ones i found were from barred owls.

i never knew that loggerhead shrikes 'produced' them until one day i saw one spit-up something while sitting on a fence.  i went and found a small kidney bean-sized pellet on the ground.  the contents were not near as interesting as one from an owl, beetle wings only, the whole thing.  this was during the summer though, in winter when easy insect prey is not available, i'm sure that a pellet from a shrike would be full of mouse and small bird parts.

Grab a bite and splash your partner at the same time.  Great fun!

I came across this pair on the beach in Florida.  The Great Blue was less than 10' away from the man.  I walked up to the fisherman and asked him if he was enjoying the company.

He went off....  Stupid bird, doesn't want to fish on its own!  Every time I stand up to bring in a fish it gets into my bait bucket.

I chuckled and walked back to take the shot.  Note that there is a casting net in the bucket and no lid.  Sitting on that thing could not be comfortable, no wonder he was pissed.

This bird was smarter than a bird brain.

    Re: Lunch

LOL!  I had a heron watching me fish once.  I landed a decent-sized fish and tossed it to the Heron instead of throwing it back.  I was sure it was too big for him, but he grabbed it right out of the air and choked it down.

    Cool lunch shot Matt!

Last year at the golf course where my husband works, a heron got a bit too greedy trying to swallow a big fish out of the pond....it got stuck in the bird's mouth/throat and unfortunately, he didn't make it... Sad

    OK, here's one....

Here is my first attempt at putting a photo here. It was taken several years ago along the SanAntonio River Walk. My question is did he kill it or steal it. Lucky Heron in any case.
