Re: New Features in iBird 1.6.1

    Ken Nielsen:

I am so in love with iBird (I have the Western version.) Thank you for doing updates and improvements. The ability to mark and recall 'favorites' is a welcome improvement to all versions.

The iPhone is the invention of the century IMHO, and iBird is the app that tops all others.

You have turned me into a, albeit beginner, 'birder.' I went right out and bought a nice pair of field glasses (Nikon 8 x 40 Action) and ordered a professional bag to carry glasses, sandwich, and whatever, into the field.

Happy days ahead, thanks to the iBird app.

     Thank You,

    Ken

Ken I glad to hear what a difference iBird has made in your life. "invention of the century" is quite a statement. There is an interesting study that an analyst that seems to draw a similar conclusion. Re: New Features in iBird 1.6.1

I am having trouble getting this update.  Any ideas?

The app store on my Itouch says I have 1 update. I check it out and it is iBird Explorer PRO version 1.6.1. It says the update is free. It says my device must be using OS 2.2.1 which it is. I say great and click on the free button. It changes to an install button, asks for my iTuned password. I enter my password, hit OK and get this message "This discounted price is only available to customers who own a previous version of this item. To purchase this item at full price, click buy."

OK, I am confused. I paid almost $30 for iBird PRO and do not want to commit to another $30 by clicking buy.

    Whats up?

Re: New Features in iBird 1.6.1

    Laura,

I'm using iBird Plus so I'm not 100% positive what's going on in your case, but I would bet that you use more than one computer or more than one computer login account. If this is the case, the most likely scenario is that your iTunes App Store authorizations are the problem. Make sure that under the Store menu in iTunes that you have the correct user credentials (by correct, I mean the same credentials under which you originally purchased iBird). You may have to deauthorize and then reauthorize the account (which doesn't hurt in any case). I've found that only syncing the iPod/iPhone with a single machine helps keep my sanity.

If this is not what's happening, I would recommend calling Apple for support (unless someone on this forum has a better idea).

Keep us posted as to what you find out,

    Robert

Re: New Features in iBird 1.6.1

No resolution yet but I checked my iTunes purchase history and even though it shows iBird PRO at a cost of 29.99 my credit card was only charged $2.10.  So I decided to hit the ok to buy.  Then I got "This item is currently being modified. Please try again later."  I am sure my credentials are in order.  I have only used one computer and was updating directly from the iTouch.  I am trying to make contact with Apple but no luck with that yet.

I guess my first question is to make sure you have your device upgraded to OS 2.2.1 because if it is upgraded you would not get that message. The message about discounted price indicates to me that you have the product on your device but bought it on a different version of iTunes. So you would need to do the upgrade on the other version of iTunes if you want it for free, otherwise you would have to pay for it. If none of this helps then I would call Apple iPhone support.

Could you have been a beta tester? The upgrades wont work for beta installations. Or did you receive a promo code to install it. The message about item being modified could mean that Apple was in the middle of changing a description in the product page so you should try again later.

I was not a beta tester that I am aware of.  I think I would know.  I also do not remember getting any kind of promo code.  No luck yet.  I just tried again.

Re: New Features in iBird 1.6.1

My iTouch is new and came with OS 2.2.1.  I have double checked.  I just bought the iBird PRO on 4-22-2009. I am not aware of a change in iTunes version between now and then. We will have to see what Apple comes up with.

You could try deleting the old version from Tunes and then try to download. If that doesn't let you download the new version how about trying to download from the Touch over wifi?

Re: New Features in iBird 1.6.1

Tried all those things.  No luck yet.  Apple support is looking at it and had to pass it up the chain to a senior account specialist. There seems to be a problem that they did not really charge me for the original download.  They just put $2.10 on my card not the $29.99.

Charging you $2.10 is bizarre. I never heard of a mistake like that. Why dont you keep me posted by email so we dont clutter up this forum...admin at whatbird dot com

Party!!! [<:o)] Re: New Features in iBird 1.6.1

Apple allowed me to download the updated version so I now have 1.5.1.  I am very happy with the new version so far.  No crashes yet.  All the features seem to be working.
