Yesterday I saw this large bird for the third time this week in my backyard. Twice it was at my birdbath and once in a tree. I live in North Central Florida and my house backs up to a wooded greenbelt. My first thought when I saw it was that it was a bald eagle because the head was much lighter than the rest of the body, I wouldn't say white bbut cream or buff colored. I looked at pictures and ruled out eagle because the body coloring was different and it did not have a white tail. Other than the light colored head the coloring and markings were just like the picture of a broad winged hawk, the tail was banded light and dark, the chest was reddish brown, the back was dark brown/grey with lighter markings. It was a big bird and had yellowish eyes and feet and a hooked beak.
Can anybody please help me identify this beautiful bird?
