    Heron ID

Hello, this has been driving me crazy now for a few weeks..  Sorry for the poor shot, but what's a guy to do with only a 17-40mm lens...

This is a Heron of sorts but I cannot ID it, if my life depended on it... I'm thinking it's an immature Green Heron...   It does have an orange beak, with a bit of yellow and black lines on it's cheek..  I cropped/zoomed it the best I could..  He was about 100' feet away..

    Heron possibly?

The sad part of this, with no lens is that he stayed on the tree for 30 mins and the sun setting was beautiful on it...  All I had were 8x30 binos...

Thanks so much for your help...

    Norman

Certainly looks like a Green heron.  I saw one last weekend on the bank of the Souhegan river in Merrimack so I know that are in the area.

Thanks for your reply rdatkins... I think it is as well...  I'm saving for a zoom lens currently... Wish I had it now...

     I need to win a lottery.... ;c)

I got lucky, I won my Canon 20D in a sales contest.  Because I got the Camera for free I was able to spring for a couple nice (not L glass but nice) lenses.  The one I like the best for birding in my 70-300 IS, but I've mentioned that before here :-)
