    Need Help ID

I haven't a clue where to start to look for this one....  Any ideas?  Sorry for the feeder photo but  every time it flew in the tree, I couldn't see it...  The link at the bottom is for the second photo...

It's a downy or hairy woodpecker; I can't tell which.

    Re: Need Help ID

Ya know, that thought came to mind but I didn't think a woodpecker could fit in there, so I never looked it up...  I just did a compare and I cannot see a difference...  Then again, I don't have a trained eye...   Thanks so much for steering me in the right direction...  There was no red color on it's head, therefore, it could be a female..  After further comparison, I now think it's a Downy...

    Re: Need Help ID

I'd say female downy woodpecker -- downy based on the fact that hairy's are much bigger (and as such probably wouldn't fit inside the feeder) and hairy's bill is typically as long as their head, while the downy's (and this one's) bill is shorter than their head.
