    My wish list

I've just started using the Toolbar and I think it's great.  Here are two things that would be helpful:

    1.  The ability to filter birds by size.

    2.  A gallery that displays thumbnails of birds that fit criteria entered.  This would allow quick comparison and identification.

If either of these functions are already available, please let me know.  Otherwise, consider them for future upgrades of the toolbar.

    Thanks!

    1.  The ability to filter birds by size.

In the Attributes section of the search engine, in the Basics attribute group, you can select one or more of the following:  3-5 inches, 5-9 inches, 9-16 inches, 16-32 inches, 32-72 inches.  The ability to select more than one size is key if you weren't able to measure the bird with a ruler.

    2.  A gallery that displays thumbnails of birds that fit criteria entered.  This would allow quick comparison and identification.

In the Matches section of the search engine, at the bottom of the section there is a radio button where you can select either Text of Icons.  Selecting Icons gives you the thumbnails you want.  You can't show icons if you are entering part of the bird name, i.e. if you are doing a text search, but it works fine if you are using attributes to narrow it down.

    Nevermind. You said "Toolbar".

    Re: My wish list

Thank you for the ideas in your wish list, they are all very good. I will have our programmer look into adding them. One of the issues for the toolbar is its size, as it is now when we add a new filter it makes the toolbar wider. At some point it becomes too wide for most browsers. I dont have a solution to that at this time. But perhaps there is a way to make the filter menus scroll horizontally.

Regarding displaying thumbnails - where would those appear? We could probably load them into a new page like we do the species page, but I am not sure if that is what you had in mind.

As far as icon vs text view for the match list that might be very hard to do with the toolbar as you would have to download all the icons to the browser and that would take a very long time. We have to deal with data being downloaded so even the filters require a good size download. Luckily its only required one time.

Again thanks for the terrific feedback and suggestions.

There is a new update to the toolbar (1.3)
