New 2009 Petersons guide & podcasts.

I lucked out today and found a new first ed. 2009 Peterson guide on the bargain table for $8.  The Peterson web site has some nice podcasts if you are a beginner like me.  The address is:

    www.petersonfieldguides.com

You can download the podcasts or just watch them online.

Congrats on the great deal.  I had to pay $26 for mine!

I just picked up a copy at the local Barnes & Noble (mainly because of this thread). It's interesting to see the differences between the guides.  Generally, I think Sibley's still more useful overall, but the Peterson's guide has some features and angles that Sibley's doesn't.  It's often good to have a few guides handy (I also have the NatGeo field guide).

I haven't looked at the podcasts yet, but it's on my list.

Does anyone use the (huge) Smithsonian Guide?

Yes I have both the Western and Eastern editions of the Smithsonian.  They are my favorites.  Besides the Smithsonian and the Peterson I also use Kenn Kaufman's Lives of North American Birds which is a little more detailed but not a field guide.
