What bird in N. MN. ?

    Attachment: DSC03531.JPG

This is my first time on a birding site.  I love the great pics. and photos in this library.  I can"t find an example of this bird in any of the descriptions.

It looks like a Black Pheobe, except it has a yellow beak instead of black,, and phoebes aren't this far north..??

Pics. taken in evening low light. They seem to come to the feeder in morning and evening. Almost always just eating the ground seeds that I throw when I fill my hanging cage feeder rather than pearching on the feeder with the pine ciskins which are smaller but really fiercely defend their feeder.   Their song is a delicate  " pew pew pew ".  They're about  4-5 inches including tail.  Thanks for your input ...  Terese Idea

    teresemom,

Somehow the photo only showed up on one of the 3 posts (at lesat for me).  Anyway, your birds are Dark-eyed juncos (Slate-colored).

I'm in Ohio and we still have some around here.  They mostly spend the summer up in Canada and the winter in North America.

Just wanting to reply.  We had these fellows with us all winter up until about a week or so ago.  I think they are the sweetest little birds.  We always threw seed out on the ground for them.  They are not as skittish as sparrows, so I was able to get a couple pictures.

    Not quite Central Iowa

Dark-eyed Juncos are cute little critters and friendly too. Here's a male of the Oregon variety, who didn't mind posing for a photo.
