    Re: Eastern Wood-Pewee

The eastern wood-pewee call is absolutely one of my favorites, so awhile back I set it as my cell phone ringtone. Today I was out birding and received a call about 10 minutes into hearing a distant pewee in the woods. The cell phone ringtone was about a half-step lower than the real live pewee. Also, the real live pewee had been singing leisurely, usually singing "pee-a-wee" three times in a row before singing, "peeeeeyoooooo," whereas my ringtone is one "pee-a-wee" and immediately one "peeeeeeyoooooo." Well, the pewee flew on a high perch right overhead and sang to perfectly mimic my ringtone, over and over, even dropping his/her call that same half-step lower.

    Amazing.

I have that ringtone, too, beepboop.  I went to enature.com and got that one plus the mockingbird, wild turkey, pileated woodpecker, rufous-sided towhee, swainson's thrush, and Carolina wren, too :))
