    Eastern Wood-pewee confermation????

i observed this bird for about ten minutes yesterday.  it was ~ 50' high in a pecan tree and making short burts of flight flycatching.  i was calling back and forth with it and its call was a slurred clear whistle:  weee-aaarre (slightly ascending).............weeEE'rrrrree (descending at the rrrree end-part).  from the call and the wing bars that are barely visible in the photo, the best i could come up with is eastern wood-pewee.  any input is appreciated.

I think you got it right.  It's tough to tell for sure from the photos but your song description is a dead ringer.

thanks randy.  i know the photos are terrible, but this guy was so high in the trees and they are so small that its very tough to even locate them.  i've always heard their calls and caught glimses of them, but i have little experience with this species.  thanks again.

thanks, but i beleive my accent would get in the way, you kneaux.

kimura was with me when we first heard the bird.  but i finally got some shots a week later.  we had it narrowed down to an eastern wood-pewee, but did not find it to confirm.
