Are you sure that's not a Caspian with that solid red beak? The tail doesn't look forked enough to be a Common either. Nice shot, one way or the other.

mj3151, I think you could be quite right. I didn't know which way to go with the ID because this one seemed small for a Caspian. I wasn't very confident in my ID to start with. I am changing it to Caspian.

My compliments to mj3151 for the question and cairnstone for starting the thread.  In all of these postings I hope that all of us are looking critically at the birds to ensure that the poster has the right bird.  My skills are just in the beginning stages and needs a lot of help.  Knowing that the experienced folks out there are looking over our shoulder is exactly what drives my postings and why I read all these threads.  Way to go.  I would celebrate someone finding an error in one of my pictures as it makes for a learning experience.

Having had your tern, here is something that is a bit more Common.

Re: One good Tern deserves another.

I'm confused, Cairnstone - on your post, which started this thread, you called it a Caspian so why is it in question?  I'm not accusing anyone of anything; just confused - maybe I'm not seeing something.

**EDIT:  Nevermind - I realize now that you had originally called it a Common Tern and you must have gone in and edited it to Caspian - sorry!!

It's time this thread took a darker Tern!

    How about a black one?
