    Nothing !!!!!

Something strange is going on I have noticed over the past 3 weeks, there has been fewer birds around until there is eventually no sign of them.

In my backyard the suet has not been touched in about 2 weeks and the seed in the feeders hasn't been touched either.

If I go outside I can't see or hear any birds around. I have noticed that even the animal population is very small. I have maybe seen 1 snake all year. A few deer grazing at the side of the 395 interstate.

I went up to the woods and swamp yesterday saw 1 chipmunk  about 5 titmouse and that was it.

Has anyone else noticed similar trends.?

    Re: Nothing !!!!!

This is reminescent of the house finch discussion. I was noticing the same thing in central Missouri, but things seem to have picked up lately. The bird activity in my backyard is busier, thought with some new faces. A bunch of chickadees have been feeding and blue jay and northern mocking bird acitivity has picked up too. A few days ago, I saw my first cedar waxwing ever, and I was very excited.

As far as other animals go, I made a 2-hour drive on Tuesday night, and I saw a doe, a raccoon and a bobcat, all alive and feeding by the side of the road. And lots of roadkill, as usual. I don't know how the weather has been in CT, but we had a dry spell that has finally been broken by lots of rain in the last 2 weeks, and that seems to have made the difference.

this is the time of year were the diurnal period is shrinking.  its normal for those types of things to happen, but hang in there it will pick up.

llsorbet, a bit off topic but am interested in the bay area.  Have you taken shots of the red-masked parakeets there?  How prevalent are they?  What does the local birding population think of them?

not quite nothing, but my feeders are certainly quiet now; good for the wallet but boring.
