    Another Bushtit?

    Taken today at wildlife sanctuary in Irvine, CA.  Looks like one, but I thought the males were dark gray with dark eyes.  This one is light colored like a female but doesn't have light-colored eyes like female.

    You're right about the eyes.  Regarding color: I think coastal birds are darker, interior birds are lighter.  In any case, I've got various shades of males and females in my yard.
