    Bird Brain,

I agree with your post, very much so.  I grew up in western Pennsylvania - land of the deer hunters.  My dad took me hunting when I was 12 years old.  But we were taught to respect the land, respect the wildlife and only hunt what you plan to eat.  My dad taught me that if I was to kill an animal, I had to clean it and prepare it for dinner.  That part grossed me out - so I only shot one squirrel in my lifetime.  But, needless to say, I respect the hunters.  I know in certain areas the deer population has exploded.  Deer are becoming malnourished and dying of diseases.  The poplulation must be controlled and the only way to do it is to have a deer season.  My husband hunts every year and we have venison in our freezer every year.

I don't agree with the trophy hunters either.  My husband hunts on a farm where the deer destroy the crops and the farmer welcomes him there.  There is a great balance to nature and we are part of it.  Part of that balance is being at the top of the food chain.  My Native American ancestors knew this and somehow I think it is inherited in my blood.  Happy hunting!

    Bird Brain:

I kill ONLY what I will eat. I always strive for a clean kill with one shot and have passed up many "possible" shots because I want to be sure I don't wound an animal/bird that will suffer. I am a predator, and I enjoy wild game far more than any pen-raised, artificially fed, antibiotic filled, and in some cases cloned, store-bought, meat. When I make a kill I give thanks to the animal for its life that I may eat, and give thanks to the Great Spirit for providing the animal. I say a prayer that the spirit of the animal is free and unhindered. Yes, I believe that all living things are equal and have equal rights to life.

Ya make my heart sing !!!!!!

LOL...I cannot help myself but I laugh at your name....Cataclysmic Beefstick. What is that about? It makes me think of Hickory Farms Beefstick or something....

It has several interpretations, the most important that it is simply a funny-sounding, pseudo-rhyming, unique username.  Its conception took all these factors into consideration one day in college when trying to scare up some user names for our Day of Defeat [computer game] clan.  You might say I simply thought of the word "cataclysmic" and searched for the first thing that sort of rhymed with it, which happened to be a beefstick.  In fact, that interpretation would be true.  I suppose one could also see the name as a comment about the beef industry's wanton destruction of the planet's resources.  It has also been construed as a phallic reference.  Intense, yet silly and irrelevant, that's what I'm going for, and I think it captures the spirit of the internet nicely.

I see what you're saying about "energy," and I think it's fair to say that at a minimum the same atoms and molecules get recycled into many different forms.  Very few of them have ever actually left the planet.  Any transcendent connotations attached to the process of atomic inheritance requires a certain leap of faith, but it is kind of neat to think that some of the molecules in my body were at one time part of a rock, a dinosaur, a tree, a sea urchin, a comet, etc.

Re: I LOVE Birds and Animals....

Well it is a funny name when you first read it a couple of times. It also contrasts greatly with being placed in the serene pic of your signature.

Yes the  phallic reference briefly came to mind but I wasn't gonna go there. It actually made me think of a gay person's user id. And me thinking that has nothing to do with you. I used to work for the state health dept. as a public health rep in STD control. In delivering intervention,we started using internet gay sites to track down those with infection who needed treatment and were passing germs a long because of the nature of their activities and such. (Syphilis is a serious disease). Their pics and names on these sites were pretty graphic. The name sort of reminded me of that. ( I never judged, I only ever looked at it as a health issue).

I always worked as a counselor/educator in the sexual health field and yet now I am unemployed, don't know where to plug myself in and I have no bird seed left and hardly any peanuts for the squirrels pinkys and crow bows. Crying

The only thing I want to do is look at birds and animals....feed them and get "high" on nature. Nothing else....

Oh and we are perceiving things differently on "energy". I mean what I said in different way but cannot explain now.
