here is hint on recording your drawings... if your scanner only does 1200x1200 or less, you would be better off shooting a picture with your camera....use the super macro, (or macro)...get close enuf to fill the frame about 75%( to avoid distortion of the lens on the outside corners).. shoot at the highest resoulution your camera gives you...i shoot mine on the "p" settings, with the light option set to the kind of bulbs providing the light...incandesent, floresent, sunlight,etc..everything else auto... i try to get enuf lightin so i dont have to worry about flash burnout... and shoot away... you can then crop it if you need to... try it.. you'll like it...by the way, nice drawings!

 What is cool is I have bird guides from a few areas around the world, I have a lot of insperation.   The Red-necked Falcon lives in Eastern Africa, and is in my Birds of Kenya book.

Yeah, that's the result of many hours of "research"...   I'm a grad student, and my research involves pressing a button to start something going, then coming back to it 25 minutes later (but I can't leave the room in the meantime), then repeating that process 4-6 times in one day...  gets rather boring at times.

I think there's a website where you can do the ASCII art yourself...  I don't know what the URL is for it, you could probably just type in ASCII art and look for a picture generator, but usually you can just upload a picture and it does its best to convert it.  I don't think it looks as good as doing it yourself, but like you said, valley, you have to be really patient and willing to try lots of combinations of things! 

That is incredible, IndianaBirdLover!  I'm not going to even attempt it myself, though.
