Every summer I hear a bird that has a call that sounds to me like it's saying "cheeseburger."  I have never seen it, so I can't find it by the usual methods.  A bird expert suggested the Carolina Wren but I just listened to its call on this web site, that's not it.  Any suggestions?  I live just south of Philadelphia, PA.

If the "cheeseburger" is repeated (very loudly) three or four times, it is indeed a Carolina wren. They have a number of different songs, so you could have been misled by comparing to the wrong one.

How about "Peter, Peter, Peter". It could be a Tufted Titmouse. Listen to one of those and see if that is it.

I hear that sound in the early summer also, I always thought it was a chickadee at least to my untrained eye thats what it looks like.

"Cheeseburger" and "Chicka dee dee" are the calls of the Black-Capped Chickadee.  Try this link. Hope this helps

I appreciate everyone's help but so far no dice.  None of the birds makes the same sound like what I'm hearing.  Actually, since the vowel sounds are all I have to go on, rather than saying it sounds like cheeseburger, I should say it sounds like a long e sound, drawn out, followed by two short "er" sounds.  Like: eeeeeeeee ur ur.  Emphasis on the eeeeeeeee.  The whole pattern is repeated, so altogether it's "eeeeeeeeeeee ur ur, eeeeeeeee ur ur".  Maybe that will help.

 

Could it be an American Robin?

Still a Black-capped Chickadee.  They don't do just the "chick a dee dee dee" thing, that is just the alarm call.  The 3 note whistling is there breeding song.  They also do tumbling, jumbled warble type thing that sounds totally un-chickadee.

Do you hear the "chickadee dee dee" after the eeeeeeee ur ur?    Sounds like you're describing a chickadee.

 

Another one I thought of would be an oven bird, but they say "teacher teacher TEACHER" which gets progressively louder.

I only hear that sound from them in early summer the rest of the year the make the chick a dee dee sound. I also noticed that when they are making the cheeseburger sound they do not make the chick a dee dee. I am sure its something to do with the nesting and the young chicks.
