Ok, I've got another one from my dim memory in Rhode Island.   Any ideas on a bird in summer that says "Ear-wig" like a pouty, teasing kid: rises in pitch on the "Ear", and falls back down through the "wig."

OK, now I'm convinced that there's a chance this is a BC chickadee.  I did say in my initial posting that I hear this call only in summer, in other words not in any other season.  I didn't realize that could be significant.  I was starting to wonder if it could be an immature bird that's still learning how to make its species' call.  So I guess since it's only heard in the summer, the websites such as this one that play different bird calls might not include the "cheeseburger" sound.

My husband and I are vacationing in Rhode Island in May, I'll ask around.

I've listened through calls online, and one that rings-a-bell is the mating call of the Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker:  "myeeeahh"   Does the Sapsucker ever turn this into a two-syllable call?
