    The black is a male and the browns female common grackles.

    I took the picture at Lake Parker in Lakeland Fl, being from the UK I was unaware what they were.

    They are Boat tailed grackles.

    They look like the common grackles we have here in s. LA.  The tail doesn't look "ample" enough (to quote Peterson) to make it a great tailed grackle.

     

    ETA correct "great tailed" to "boat tailed"

    Barredowl is correct, these are Boat-tailed Grackles. The female Common Grackles look much like the male, while the Boat-tailed females are brown like the ones in the picture. Without any other comparison, judging the 'ample-ness' of the tail may be somewhat dificult.

    Thanks guys, I am sure I will be needing more help from you all soon, I have loads of pictures from Lake Parker of birds.
