    *Thunk*.....

That is what I heard against one of my living room windows. Then I thought...darn another bird hit the window. I didn't know which window it hit yet I saw my cat looking in a certain direction and there I went and I discovered a Blue Jay on the little roof. Aww...a Boo Boo Jay now!

It was doing some funny things with its eyes and so I decided to just wait and observe to see if I needed to intervene. I decided on doing a "healing". Thoughts are things and positive energy heals, rejuvenates and energizes and I began to send and intend Love to this bruised oh one! I just kept radiating it and asked God/dess to help use me as a conduit for this blue colored bird of bright.

Now I know sometimes they are fine and just need to "come to" again but I could help it along. Its body was facing away from me but then all of a sudden it turned its head directly around and it felt like it looked at me through the window where I was standing quite silently. It then flew onto a branch on a tree and I watched it a bit longer.

I saw about 5 bluest jays earlier come to eat on my "birdfeeder" roof so I think it is just fine. Yay! Those little "trumpeters".

    Re: *Thunk*.....

I have several very large picture windows in my living room which look out onto my deck.  I often hear that dreaded "thunk".  It is fascinating to me how birds can bounce back.  I have seen many birds of all varieties laying on my deck perfectly still and think they are dead only to see them fly away later.

It doesn't seem to matter what kind of bird it is, they all go through the same series of steps to recover.  I have watched birds of all sizes - the smallest being hummingbirds and the largest a piliated woodpecker (that one was more than "thunk" - I thought it broke my window!).  If I leave them alone to recover (and keep my cat off the deck), they will rest, stretch their wings, come to a squat, rock back and forth, work their necks, and then eventually work their way to the edge of the deck and jump off.  Sometimes it only takes a few minutes, other times it can take a couple of hours (the piliated woodpecker was there for over 2 hours).

I always watch them, say a little prayer, and check back often.  I don't know how much of an impact my positive thoughts have on the birds' recovery, but I know it can't hurt so I send them plenty!

    Re: *Thunk*.....

For those who have large windows and would like to give the birds a better chance, try the local garden store or nursery for strawberry netting.  It can be mounted to the side of the house covering the picture window, is virtually invisible once in place, and the gaps between the fibers are too small to entangle birds.  No more thumps...

    Re: *Thunk*.....

Good going kjtree....looks like we do the same thing.

kibber....Thank you for your idea with the netting. I actually live in an apartment so I don't think I could do that. I am surprised it actually doesn't happen more often 'cause there are birds all around. My birdfeeder is my roof on the other side of these window.....so this is part of why the birds come and yet it is open space all around. A few years ago when I moved in again I found some birds lying dead on the roof....warblers. Now I only get dazed ones though.
