    Can't find bird online...

I saw a bird this morning.  I'm located in central Texas

It had almost the body of a grackle (about grackle sized), with a short tail, black body..but it had a crested/fluffy head that was really dark green in color, or black iridescent green.  It's beak was almost flycatcher like, but not woodpecker like.

    Anybody know?  Thank you!

I checked it but the tail is too long, beak too short, not enough head "fluff" and less purple sheen :)

My best guess is an olive-sided flycatcher.  Central Texas is a little east of its usual range, but it is in its migratory range... so who knows?

What was the habitat in which you saw the bird and what was it doing (feeder, perched on branch, on ground, flycatching, etc.)? With no photo to go on, behavior is always a very useful clue.

I guessed at the olive but it was much darker colored, hmm.

City area, buildings, perched on a building.  It was calling, I'd know it if I heard it again.

Well, that city setting makes a huge difference. Now I'd say European Starling, which thrive amongst humans. You would never find something like an Olive-sided Flycatcher in that kind of dense human habitat.
