As birders, i know ya'll have days when you see nothing at all and wonder where all the birds went, but then other days you see so many at once you don't know where to look first! I had just such a day this past Sat morning.
I was trying to track down the ever elusive yellow-breasted chat when, at almost the same time, I saw a Common yellowthroat and a female orchard oriole(and her nest) in a sycamore tree located at the end of my house. The yellowthroat was gone in a second, never to be seen again.
I turn my head to look at the oriole nest again when across the road in a pine tree I see a Pileated woodpecker, which I don't see much of. So there i was with my head practically spinning, not sure whether to try moving to get my camera or what!
In the end, I was only able to get a pic of the oriole and her nest. The pileated flew as I was trying to sneak up closer but I keep hearing it knocking out there somewhere so I hope I'll see it again soon.
As for the chat, I hear it constantly and see it flying, in its ungainly, wing-popping fashion but haven't been able to get a pic yet. That's one of my goals though.
