    Brantford Area (S. Ontario) mystery

    Attachment: IMG_0291_edited.jpg
We saw this bird on our lawn, mostly solid light brown on top and the head, and rusty on the breast and stomach. It's the size of a robin but has white lower (outer) wing feathers, the light colour of brown/grey instead of black upper body, and a short, stubby beak like a grosbeak's. It is not a female grosbeak or an oriole.

Reduce the size of the picture file to, say 750x600 pixels, and then post it.

Looks like a female eastern towhee.

The fact that it is hopping and foraging i oyur lawn automatically means it is not an oriole. Orioles are tree forages and are brightly coloured. Definitly a towhee.

Thank you very much, everybody! After finding some other pictures of these birds, I'd have to agree with you all. This is my first time on the site, and it was a lot of fun.
