First off I have called the ildlife people and am just waiting for the call back until then however I am trying to make sure the baby stays warm, comfortable and alive. If I had an idea of the type of bird I am dealing with I could ven try getting a little food into it to keep it going until i get it to the right people.
I am in Arizona the Phoenix area to be precise.
At first I just thought it ws a grackle baby but once I got it inside I started to realize that I am not dealing with a grackle. I weighed it on my kitchen scale and it is about 2 oz which is pretty hefty for something still more than 50% unfeathered.
The bird has dark feathers on the back, head and wings with a much lighter chest that has a spotted pattern to it.
The legs are really big nd long and already look pretty powerful even though he can't even stand on them. The beak and legs are a dark brown/black color. The beak also has very thin white lips at the base. The beak is not extremely long being only about the same length as the head itself. It does not curve and the base is fairly wide. The head is pretty rounded and th eyes are small and dark. When it chirps it is pretty light and musical sounding definately more of a whistle than the harsh cry I would have expected.
I will add pic to hopefully help with the ID.
Thanks in advance!
