    Bird ID In CA Please!

    Attachment: Hornsby.jpg

    Hello!

I found this poor little guy/gal outside my door this morning! I actually thought it had died but it was still breathing, just laying on it's sideon the concrete, in the hot sun. I picked it up and it just snuggled in my hand and slept for about 90 minutes. (Yes, I am patient, and Ijust enjoyed the morning and a good cup of coffee.) Anyway, this is a bird that has puzzled me for a long time. It looks like a little female House Sparrow...but it has long white hairs, eyebrows of sorts, over it's eyes. I have not seen many of these birds. I am in the San Joaquin Valley Area of California, Stockton, to be specific. My father has a few at his feeders in San Jose Also. Does anyone have any idea of the name of these cute little peeping birds?

Thank you! My next question then is...What can I do for this little guy besides nothing? He cannot fly yet. I think, perhaps, he was on a first flight and tired out. That is how I found him on my patio. Exhausted! He jumps around our yard peeping for his parents, looking to the skies. I think he is following suit of older birds and eating a bit of seed on the ground, but very little. Problem is, we have a pool, and I am afraid he will end up in that or a meal for  one of the neighborhood cats. I guess this is nature and I should just leave him to learn on his own...fend for himself. I sure is a difficult thing. Especially when I've named the little thing Hornsby! Anyway...thank you for listening...any words would be appreciated.

You can look in your phone book for help. There are many places you can bring an injured bird to. Try your local Animal Wildlife rescue. They sometimes even come to your home and pick up the bird if you can't bring to them.
