    Tucson Sonora Desert Museum

Another plug for the Tucson Sonora Desert Museum. Here's a very pretty bird from the aviary there.

I never used to use pictures of captive birds in my gallery, but got several shots at the museum's aviaries that I just had include. The birds there are very tame. After struggling to get a distant shot of some of these birds in the wild, it sometimes felt very odd to have one just a few feet away, calmly posing. The volunteers at the aviary told me that most of the birds there were either rehabbed or born in captivity. They spend their entire lives in the aviary which is a large space in the open air enclosed with netting and filled with lush greenery.

I've been there about 3 times with my family. My brother got a great shot of a Broad-billed Hummingbird in the aviary with a dinky little pocket camera the last time we went down. I think I post it someday...
