This is incredibly cool!! I had one hummer at the beginning of summer and haven't seen any since. But then this has been a very freaky bird year for me.  Again, this is just awesome.

Wow, raptrlvr!  It's amazing they are sitting there together without fighting.  I have a little feeder hanging outside of my kitchen window that has only one port and I had a half a dozen fighting over it the other morning.  What kinds of hummers are those?  Rufous....black-chinned?

    Re: Hummingbird invasion

Yes, we make our own hummingbird water. Its 4 cups of water to 1 cup of sugar. We boil the water first and then mix in the sugar while the water is hot, but, not boiling. We got the recipe from the Whatbird site. We had the red food coloring in for a while, but, the hummers prefer the white over the red. We have several different types of hummers, Anna, Rufus, Colliope, broadtailed and the blackchinned. We probably have others that I haven't identified yet. Every day we have about 100 hummers buzzing around the feeders with the rufus trying to keep the others away from the feeders.

That is amazing, raptrlvr!! I have never seen such a swarm of Hummingbirds in my entire life!!! We're lucky to have two or three feed at our feeder at one time, and then a chase always follows as one, usually the resident Anna's female, tries to restore her dominance as the Queen of the Feeder!! Great photos as usual, too.

Thanks Bird Brain. This is just one of the feeders. We have 3 more that are filled just as much as this one. Every morning my wife and I sit on the back patio and drink our coffee and it sounds like a buzz saw because of all the hummingbirds coming in. These are migrating through and won't last too long, but, we are enjoying them for now.

    Re: Hummingbird invasion

I'm new to the forum and in reading some of the older threads saw this one.  You are so lucky to have not only so many but such a wide variety.

Here in North Carolina, we have only the Ruby Throated.  For the past few years we had only  two show up each spring but this year we are seeing many more.  We have to refill the feeder about every two days.  I love to stand near the feeder and watch them up close and personal.  They seem to have no fear and will fly very close to my face.

We have found they like the clear water better also.
