    Re: White-winged Dove

is it common behavior for white winged doves to actually feed at a feeder?   All of the doves i have had, up until now, have been ground feeders.  I had 3 white winged doves in my feeder yesterday, at the same time!  I have a tray feeder.  I put it up mostly for the grackles.  they will stay away from my other feeders if i keep this one supplied. lol thanks nanaku

I've never seen a dove feed at one of my hanging feeders although they do eat from the pan feeder I have out.  I usually only have mourning doves but did have one white-winged wander up to my yard last year

    Re: White-winged Dove

It is true that they don't feed well at hanging feeders. They will, however, wait until other birds spill the seeds and then gather around under the feeder to eat the spilled seeds. They readily feed at the tray or along the fence where I put seeds on the framework. It is fun to watch them try to get at the seeds from the hanging feeder when no other birds are present. Just swinging on it seems to knock enough food down where they will fly down and dine. I get four types of doves at my feeder and they all exhibit the same behavior.
