Yeah, I hope he didn't choke on it. I believe this is an immature GB Heron. I've seen him at this wildlife sanctuary for the past month or so, walking around the ponds and just waiting for something good to come along. He'll actually let you get fairly close without getting scared off. He'll wait until I'm only about a few feet away before he starts walking (not flying) away. However, today he did fly when he found out he couldn't walk fast enough to keep ahead of me!
By the way, I bought the Sibley guide (Western N. America), and it's great! Can't wait for the ducks to get their beautiful breeding plumage back so I can get photos of them before they leave town again. Thanks again for the heads up.
