    Re: Lunch

This green heron didn't even have to move to get breakfast.  It had been sitting in one spot taking a little mid morning nap and this bull head (?) slithered by in the muck = breakfast!

The Little Blue is showing his youth and inexperience in thinking that here is any way under the sun that he's going to take that meal from a Great Blue Heron.

Little Blue?  Isn't that a Snowy Egret?  The picture is out of focus because it's a caption from a video I took.  The Snowy (or Little Blue) eventually backed off and walked away; I think he knew better than to mess with the Great Blue.

    Re: Lunch

Did you take this in So. Cal?  If so, then you're right, it is a Snowy (I didn't check the range maps first).  I was trying to make a call just from the picture, but the low resolution made it hard.  To me the legs looked too light for Snowy, and the lores look kind of indistinct, where Snowys have bright yellow lores.

I was hoping it was a juvie Little Blue, so I could use Reagan's famous "youth and inexperience" line.   Smile

    Re: Lunch

Yes, it was taken in So. CA.  Unfortunately, I don't get to travel out of this area much.  Well, maybe it was a juvenile Snowy Egret?  Anyway, he did back off and leave a few seconds after that shot.

When trying a second time you can go in and edit the original misfire and try the attach again.  Avoids a message for each try.

Terrible pic, the lighting was terrible yesterday.  First kestrel of the season and it caught the mouse while I was watching.
