It is amazing how relentless and determined a house wren can be when they decide on a spot to nest. We have a small covered patio on the rear of our home which had an artificial flower arrangement hanging on the wall behind our glider. Last season, we noticed the wren singing on the back of the glider--sure enough they had built in the spagnum moss of the arrangement. Unfortunately, the neighbor's cat also noticed, and in spite of our efforts killed the female. This year we were determined to foil her and as soon as we saw her show an interest, my wife took the arrangement down and moved it into our enclosed garage (which is closed every night) on the other side of the house. A few days later, I would notice the dried moss scattered on the floor of the garage, but did not check it out. Then I stepped out into the garage one day and the female flew right in front of my face. She had built a nest on my peg-board tool holder behind a couple of screwdrivers.
