I live in northern Virginia and have seen this hummingbird? several times. Well, I think it is a bird and not a large bee. As you can see, it hovers and drinks nectar just like a hummingbird. For comparison, the blossoms are typically about 1 to 1-1/4 inches across, 2.5 - 3 cm.
