I don't know if you've solved your Bushnell problem, but I have pair that I JUST put in the trash this morning...I dropped them and they're toast. BUT, I can send you the part you need if you want and still need it. Just give me good directions on what piece to send...

I believe if you thrash around in your car under the seats, etc,, you may find the missing part for your Bushnell, otherwise you may try making something to fit. I do things like that all the time. Also try some camera or optics shops like the other post said. Keep a check on thrift stores and flea markets for cheap good ones or broken ones for parts. I have found three brand new pair (in the box...I bought two) and a couple of older ones in the same thrift store within the past couple years.

Re: Does anyone own a pair of 10x50 Bushnell's???

You know how it can be, sometimes I get to a "spot" first and then the bird flies in to within a few feet of me. Just trying to but the "glasses" on it without spooking it is difficult and then I can't get them dialed in enough to focus on it.
Re: Does anyone own a pair of 10x50 Bushnell's???

Jim Penny:

They are great for distances beyond about 8 ft. Any closer and I can't focus on the target.

If you're using binoculars for targets closer than 8 feet maybe you should be into bugs. LOL just making fun...

Re: Does anyone own a pair of 10x50 Bushnell's???

Back in Dec., I purchased a 10x50 from Target for around $70 to try out. It is a Eddie Bauer brand but don't know who the manufacturer is. I used them for a couple of months with little problems, then one morning when went to use them in the field, I discovered that something had come off. The center bar and top lens separated from the lower lens. I did not know when I lost the missing piece.

Target would not exchange them because I no longer had the receipt. So, I went Online and looked up the Company that supplied them to Target. They ended up replacing them for $5 plus the cost of me shipping it back to them.

Sounds like 10x50's must have a common problems.

They are great for distances beyond about 8 ft. Any closer and I can't focus on the target.

Re: Does anyone own a pair of 10x50 Bushnell's???

I own a pair and they work great so far but I have been known to be very hard on equipment. I bought a pair of the small Tasco 12 X 25 that I can put in my pocket. They work good enough for me to spot the birds and then I walk to get a little closer and use my camera. Can't see spending the big bucks on bino's when I can put that money towards another lens for my camera. That said, I have a friend who has a pair of Swaroski's {sp?} that cost $3000. I have looked through them and I must say they are pretty awesome.

Re: Does anyone own a pair of 10x50 Bushnell's???

I have had a pair of those for about 20 years. I sent them in to Bushnell and they said I would have to pay 70 dollars to fix them (even though they had a warranty). They are the worst pair of Binoculars I have EVER owned, I would stay clear of buying them again. If you are on a tight budget I would buy a pair of Nikon Action 8x42 they run about 40 bucks, and for the money you pay the quality is outstanding.
Does anyone own a pair of 10x50 Bushnell's???

I bought a great pair of 10x50mm Bushnell binoculars about 5-6 months ago. They have that triangle shaped focus system that allows only one stroke/movement to focus on an object. They call it 'Insta-focus'.... I think.

Anyway, the reason I ask is because something very strange happened the other day. I went for a day trip up to a great birding area in Northwestern CT... when I was leaving, I packed up all my stuff in the same duffle bag, the same way I always do. I packed my camera and lenses, large binoculars, tri-pod, hiking boots, field guides, empty drink bottles, and the smaller binocs. I know for a fact that they were fine when I put them in there because on the ride out on the dirt road I had to stop and pull them out to watch a Black Vulture soaring over the Housatonic River. They worked great, as usualy, when I put them back in the duffle bag.

After I put them in there I drove to McDonalds, then home.... about a 2 hour ride. The whole time, the bag was sitting on my passenger seat, with no stress on it, and not jammed in or being pressed on or anything.

When I got home, I put the duffel bag in the same place it always goes. Maybe 2-3 days later, there were 3 flycatchers perched along the picket fence in my backyard..... so I run downstairs to grab my binocs, run back upstairs and sloooowly open the back door... and the focus is broken.

They still work, but I have to manually move the eyepiece part back and forth to focus. To see what was wrong, I pulled out the eyepiece part... the part that comes out is the 2 eyepieces connected to a bar that slides down into the main part. On this bar there is a hole/slit where a pin or something needs to go. And, inside the shaft on the main part, where the bar fits into, there is another hole/slit where the pin form the bar would be inserted. There is no pin.... the hole/slit on the inside of the shaft is on the inside of the 'Insta-focus' triangle. So, if the pin was in there, it would be inserted in the hole/slit on the bar that is connected to the eyepiece part, and in the hole/slit that is inside the shaft on the main part that is controlled by the triangle focus knob.

So.... I know what the problem is. I do not know how it happened. And, I do not know how I would go about fixing it. Its not like the binocs were hundreds of dollars, they were only about $70. But, 70 bux is 70 bux and I can't afford to buy another pair.

Has this happened to anyone before?? Any suggestiong about how I can go about fixing them?? Obviously the best course of action would be to buy another pair... but as of now, that is not in the cards. As far as I know, there is no warrenty any more.
