I have no idea what this eagle is eating - maybe she found part of a steelhead in the river. But I told my husband I wanted to try out the camera after getting the sensor cleaned and this is what we found. After eating it's mystery lunch it flew into the tree and looked up in the sky to wonder when is it going to stop raining! It was too far away for really good pictures but I usually don't see them in eating on the river bed this close to home.

Thanks - yes, they are beautiful birds - very photogenic! This is my best find in my entire year of birding! (I started at beg. of this year)

Barn owls can nest almost any time of the year. It's pretty common for them to nest in the fall and spring. Our great horned owls nest in late january!

It's very live! They've been living in this tree for some time now. We've been wanting them to lay eggs for a couple of months but despite all his best efforts they haven't layed any! The 4 babies that hatched last spring all fledged - although that was from different parents. The owls are both banded but so far we can't seem to get enough info from the video so track the owls back to how old they are etc. Keep watching - they'll be home before too long. I hope you enjoy the site - they also have a hummingbird nest in the spring.

Isn't it the wrong time of year for nesting? Or do owls nest during the winter? I'm going to keep an eye on this webcam - this is amazing! Will probably scare the s--- out of me when the birds suddenly appear! Thanks for sharing - I'm not too far from that Starr Ranch; I live in South Orange County (Irvine area)

I don't know how well this will work but here goes! There is a barn owl web cam at the Audubon Starr Ranch in Orange County CA. The other evening I was watching the cam when the female came home with this huge rat. I was told it's a wood rat but I have no idea what that is. But anyway - it was amazing to watch this barn owl eat this huge rat. I have the video saved in RealNetworks but I can't figure out any way to post it. Here's a couple of screen shots - the rat she's eating has already been munched on for a few minutes.

Wow - so it's live! I went to the website but the cavity was empty. If you can figure out how to post your video, I'd love to see it!
