I picked up my cage feeder at Target on sale. It's globe shaped and birds up to Cardinal size go in it. Home Depot and Lowe's also have bird supplies for reasonable prices.

I don't have an Atwoods, but I do have a Tractor Supply which has a few feeders and tons of seed. We have a shop in town called "For the Birds", but as it's a small shop the prices are pretty steep.

I usually begin to cut back on the number of feeders in the spring anyway but don't want to take them all down, and like you, I have begun to see some cowbirds, which I want to discourage for obvious reasons. I have never purchased a cage feeder and wasn't even sure what they were until I 'googled' it. www.bestnest.com had some interesting choices. But if you have an Atwood's store near you (they are a farm supply-type store) they offer a good selection of not only bird houses and feeders but also feed (in bulk)

I am so jealous! I live in an apartment complex and 90% of the time all I see are house finches and house sparrows from my porch...

Try an Agway, Walmart, or Wildbirds Unlimited if you have one near you.

Well, fall has come and gone and spring is here. I have taken up all my feeders in hopes of getting rid of some pesky birds like Starlings, etc. I now have to buy some cage feeders. Anyone have any suggestions on where I can pick up some reasonably priced ones?

Maybe the birds eat food to get energy to migrate... it's so odd that most birds you counted are nonmigratory birds.

Wow Cosmic....must be they came for you.....what a treat!

I remember having a really notable experience like that this past summer. I saw more species in an hour's time than I ever saw. Female and Male Baltimore Orioles, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Sandpipers, Gulls, Herons, Catbirds, Kingbirds, all kinds of Sparrows, Dark Eyed Juncos, White Breasted Nuthatches, Cedar Waxwings, Mourning Doves and more....

It was magical.....

I think we should have a bird seed party at your house!

This is not typical Fall behavior at my house but more like what I get in the Winter

I have 4 seed feeders in my yard, 2 which contain black oil sunflower and 2 with a mixture, plus 2 suet feeders. For several days, it has been crazy in my backyard. This past evening, I sat on the deck and counted this many birds at one time:

8 Blue Jays, 15 Goldfinches, 5 Chickadees, 7 White Throat sparrows, 4 Tufted Titmouse, 6 Cardinals (4 females, 2 males), 2 Mockingbirds, 4 Carolina Wrens, 1 Downy Woodpecker, 1 Red Bellied woodpecker, 3 White breasted Nuthatches, 6 Mourning doves, 10 House finches, 5 Song Sparrows, 3 Crows, 4 Dark eyed Juncos, plus a plethora of birds in the tree in my backyard that I heard but didn't see. They were whizzing by me as I sat on the deck and the noise was crazy! Is this usual fall behaviour? It has continued for the past several days. There are so many birds I can't count them all!
