I
notice recently that many sites that sell bird cages offer a new bird cages
brand Marvelous Cages.

I’m in love and
impressive of their design. But I’ve never seen these bird cages live in the local PetStore. They offer for sale 9-10 models.

Has anyone heard of
these? Does anyone have one? Are they nice? What’s about quality, design,
company or something! Thank’s friends.

     Please
share your impressions. In particular: I chose this cage:

My #1 question is: How long does it take for tail feathers to grow back? He is seemingly completely healthy otherwise, eats & drinks well, likes blinds open and music or TV on (chirps along with sounds). I have him an a standard domestic finch cage and he seems to be adjusting quite well considering I'm sure he would rather be back where he belongs. When I cover the cage at night, he immediately settles in and doesn't make a peep until I open his blinds and remove the cover in the AM. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I hope to be able to return him to his place of origin as soon as he is able to fly again. Thank you.

House Finch Rehab

I've been working for the past 4 days with a wild male House Finch that has lost his tail feathers. I'm not sure if this finch has an infection or if it may have gotten in a fight with another bird? If it's an infection, I'd like to transport it to the local rescue clinic, which does take in sick/injured birds free-of-charge. Would anyone here be able to help identify what might be wrong with this finch? It comes to my feeder daily and it's been bumping into things lately, obviously because it can't see good. Thanks for your help in advance. :)

The area on the top of the head between those markings is a light/faint orangey-rust color. I found several warblers that were similar, but not just like it. Maybe it's a female that my book just didn't show. Any ideas? I'm in south-centralish Ohio, but this time of year it could be a transient that normally lives futher north and is migrating. Thanks.

since the polar bear was declared endangered due to loss of habitat because of global warming, developers are worried that carbon emissions could be used as an excuse to ban a project that contains a sensitive species, the lawmakers are saying that there isnt even proof to link global warming to habitat loss to the polar bear for example.

outside agents like the fish and wildlife do not believe that the federal agencies heading a development project have the expertise to decide if species would be impacted nor could they be objective, since their main interest is to complete their project.

here is a link to one article. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26143098/

if you feel strongly that the proposed change would negatively impact wildlife habitat, write to senators, congress, the administrators because the law will not need approval of congress, and would take months if not years to overturn.

Rusty Blackbird ? ?

Deleted by author.

From afar, this looks like a crow and is about the size of a crow, though possibly a tiny bit smaller... But this bird is all black except for it's neck and head, which is a very dark flat blue color and gives off the slightest dark green depending how the light hits it, except for the almighty crow!!! And it's in my yard feeding on the ground below the feeders...

Any ideas, cuz I've searched everywhere's and my books don't have it and Thayer's Bird guide doesn't show anything close to it... Maybe I'm just seeing colors that are not there... NADA!!

I don't have a good enough lens to get a photo of it yet... Still saving $$$.$$

Thanks,

This is a Heron of sorts but I cannot ID it, if my life depended on it... I'm thinking it's an immature Green Heron... It does have an orange beak, with a bit of yellow and black lines on it's cheek.. I cropped/zoomed it the best I could.. He was about 100' feet away..

I actually thought it had died but it was still breathing, just laying on it's sideon the concrete, in the hot sun. I picked it up and it just snuggled in my hand and slept for about 90 minutes. (Yes, I am patient, and Ijust enjoyed the morning and a good cup of coffee.) Anyway, this is a bird that has puzzled me for a long time. It looks like a little female House Sparrow...but it has long white hairs, eyebrows of sorts, over it's eyes. I have not seen many of these birds. I am in the San Joaquin Valley Area of California, Stockton, to be specific. My father has a few at his feeders in San Jose Also. Does anyone have any idea of the name of these cute little peeping birds?

Northern Mockingbird - Virus/Infection ?

I'm interested in knowing what would cause a Northern Mockingbird to have either 1) An infected eye or 2) Simply no eyes at all ? In the last week, I've come across two (2) different Northern Mockingbirds within two miles range of each other and both of them had no eyes. The entire eye area was black and looked dry, crusty, and simply "rotten" as if they caught a virus or had been infected. I did some research on it via Internet and came across some information, which I'll paste below, and perhaps this may be the same thing that has happened to these Northern Mockingbirds that I spotted. They were completely blind by the way because one of them I know for a fact kept bumping and flying into different objects.

"Mycoplasmosis is the most recently discovered disease in songbirds. It is being transmitted by direct contact, airborne droplets or dust. It causes conjunctivitis (infection of membranes of the eye). It has spread rapidly through the eastern population of house finches" (http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:J_upIH4V9voJ:rip.physics.unk.edu/nou/newsletter/199803.html+northern+mockingbird%2Beye+infection&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=10&gl=us).

This bird has a charcoal colored head(with a bluish cast) with a grey body(which also has a bluish cast but not bright blue, more grey) and light/[a;e chest. The immature birds ( the babies fledged out from the first nest this year) are more brownish. The tail is held straight out ( not fanned).

At first I thought a wren of some sort as it's that size but the nest is cupped and very neat with some green moss intertwined and the bird sits on top of it ( as opposed to a wrens that has a side entrance ). The eggs appear to be white but I have not been able to see them myself ( held camera up when bird was off nest to get picture of eggs).

Ideas? I'm in the southern US.

Bird ID please !

This is my first so please be patient ! http://pic80.picturetrail.com/VOL2137/4574010/19844884/320613641.jpg

World Migratory Bird Day

In case you're worried about birds and environmental issues you should have a look at this awareness rising initiative:

This year’s WMBD on 10 – 11 May will focus on the theme “Migratory Birds – Ambassadors for Biodiversity’. The event, which has taken place in May for three years running, is a global awareness campaign that aims to inspire people to take action for the conservation of migratory birds.

Birds are some of the best indicators for the status and trends of biodiversity around the world, as they inhabit virtually all the ecosystems in the world. Throughout their annual cycle, migratory birds cross many countries and continents, some of them from the tundra to the tropics, linking different ecosystems. By conserving them and their environment, we ensure the conservation of biodiversity on a wider scale.
