    dead horse

I am thinking about going to a hummingbird festival where banding will be done.  I will be taking pictures of the banding and the various parts of the bird (I hope).  I am also going to be counting these birds on my life list even though they are captive.....

    Re: dead horse

What an EVIL attitude you have.  Banding is cruel and disrespects the rights of the birds to live and die free... and when they are in the hand of the bander they are certainly captive... therefore do not qualify for your list.

However... I suppose that if you watch the bander release the bird... at the point of release, then it is a free bird and then can be counted.  Alas... this is a dilemma.

Where is this dead horse?... I'll help you flog him.

I would prefer a cynical rather than evil but that is for others to judge.  There seems to be a lot of rigidity in people's approach yet nuance and rigidity don't match very well.  Just thought that I would air a different twist...

    Re: dead horse

The more we know about birds and where they go, the less we can affect them with development, therefore in a way making them more free then if they are not banded.

Not my style to give away everything about what I think... but I do admit to being a bit... sarcastic... but only in two situations.  If I'm by myself, or with some body.

Now that I think of it... those are the only two times that I will drink a glass of wine...  too.
