I am attaching a picture of the bird.  I have tried searching for it, but nothing seems to match.

Try Great Blue Heron

If you think that's it, then maybe it is.  I did look at the Great Blue Heron... I guess I just don't really see how they resemble each other.

I agree w/ Photog but it does look like an immature or post-fledgling Great Blue Heron, because your (beautiful I might mention!) photo depicts a bird w/ head plumage lacking the black plumes and shaggy extensions behind the neck as w/ adult breeding which would been seen this time of year. Good birding!

I think luv2bird is correct... this is not a mature bird.  Remember not all shots of the birds will match exactly with the books.  And not all distributions are correct.

They are the best we have in a field guide... but with photography you can get other opinions. This is a nice shot but maybe you have another with the entire bird... that helps too.

Yeah, as luv2bird says, this is a juvenile bird, so the plumage is a little different from a typical adult great blue heron.  But it is a great blue heron, nonetheless.
